The method

How does it work?

GPS for Enterprises brings together a group of 10 to 12 people. It is best to mix people from different areas: directors, supply clerks, HR managers, secretaries…Preferably, external people such as clients, suppliers and experts that know your sector should attend as well. They normally are able to give a different perspective.

A GPS session consists of 3 rounds

  • Round 1: generating ideas. In pairs, people come up with ideas about the trends and developments listed on the board.
  • Round 2: selecting ideas. The group selects the best ideas.
  • Round 3: expanding ideas. Working in small groups, participants will expand the best ideas and create a project card file.

After the session, it is best to write a report. This way, participants can take some time to think about the GPS session – making sure that none of those ‘great ideas” got left behind and confirming that the selected ideas were actually the best ones.

Timing

A typical GPS session lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours. Most companies set aside half a day for a session. At the end of three hours, you will have a list of ideas, a rough selection of the better ideas, and several of the best ideas worked out in more detail.
