About the DC Network
Located in the center of China's Pacific coast at the mouth of the Yangtze River, Shanghai is China's largest economic center.
Shanghai has a 700-year history and was once one of East Asia's international financial centers. More recently, since China's reform and opening and especially since the 1990's when Shanghai implemented the national strategy of opening and developing Pudong, the city's economy, social structure, and appearance have all undergone huge changes. The area's production value has been increasing at a rate of 10% or more for 15 consecutive years, attracting the attention of the entire world. Shanghai has successfully hosted an APEC meeting, a Fortune Forum and other international conferences, and in 2010 Shanghai will host the World Expo.
According to the most recent comprehensive city development plans, by 2020 Shanghai will have essentially completed its transformation into a modern, international metropolis, as well as an international economic, trade, financial and shipping center. The Shanghai Municipal Government has approved an industrial development plan that gives "Priority to Developing a Modern Service Industry and Priority to Developing Advanced Manufacturing"; it has also devoted itself to creating a service oriented, responsible government that is committed to the rule of law and that will conscientiously regulate the economy, monitor the markets, manage social programs, serve the public, and protect the environment. Shanghai is a city full of life, something you will see for yourself when you get to know its glorious past, its thriving present, and its bright future. Shanghai's industrious, friendly people warmly welcome you to come to Shanghai for business or pleasure, and share in the city's success.
