Lombardia the industrial area of Italy

Situated in the North of Italy, in the hearth of the most prosperous part of Europe, Lombardia represents a bridge to the Mediterranean. It is located in a strategic position, along the main route linking eastern and western Europe. A population of nearly 10 million inhabitants, distributed over an area of approx. 24,000 square Kilometres, makes this region in many ways similar to a nation in its own right.
A dynamic and competitive land, thanks to its fortunate geographical setting and the initiative of its inhabitants, it stands out as a privileged interlocutor on the international economic scenario. The Lombardia territory, symbol of modernity and development, features natural treasures of great charm, alongside and extremely valuable artistic and cultural heritage. 

In Lombardia there are 748,000 SMEs, mostly organized in associations, networks and industrial districts.
With 4 international airports, 12 Universities,225 public and private research centres and an unemployment: 4,1% (Italy: 7,7%) it is the most important region in Italy for all aspects of the working life.
The Lombardia Region’s mission is to promote what society is able to construct in its various forms, by creating in a creative way the conditions and the framework necessary for people, undertakings, entities and organisations to achieve their own projects and their own ideas.
